The links go to Disney's restaurant descriptions. Appearances can change; choose the meal period as carefully as the restaurant.

Topolino's, 'Ohana and Cape May do not have characters at dinner. Hollywood & Vine's former Disney Junior breakfast is no longer the offering to plan around. Check the current description before promising a particular character to your child.
Current prices: what a family actually pays
These prices were read directly from Disney's menus on October 11, 2026. They exclude tax, gratuity and separately priced extras. The child column is ages 3–9. Family totals are our arithmetic for two adults and two children.

Chef Mickey's costs this family $40 more than Garden Grill before tax and tip. The castle breakfast adds another $50 over Chef Mickey's. Those differences buy different settings and characters, not a guarantee of a better meal for your family.
Garden Grill and Hollywood & Vine also require park admission. Don't buy an extra park day just to save $40 on breakfast. On a resort day, Chef Mickey's can be the less expensive whole outing even with its higher menu price.
Breakfast, lunch or dinner?
Breakfast often costs less, but it can consume the morning you intended to spend on rides. Reserve it on a slower morning or make the meal the morning's main event. Don't expect a breakfast reservation to produce an early ride advantage.
A lunch can replace a rushed counter-service meal and give everyone a seated pause. For a child who needs a proper room nap, however, a long lunch is not a substitute. Dinner works best when its time fits the child's ordinary routine and the journey back is straightforward.
For a buffet, decide which adult will collect food while the other stays with young children. Garden Grill and 'Ohana breakfast bring food to you, which is a practical reason to prefer them even before comparing characters.
When and how to book
Dining reservations open up to 60 days ahead, with new availability for select restaurants generally appearing around 6 a.m. Eastern. Disney Resort hotel guests get advance access for their eligible stay window. Use the reservation-date calculator and confirm the dates offered in your linked Disney account. Our calculator uses the first 10 days of the stay as a conservative planning window; Disney's reservation policy controls eligibility.
Before opening morning, link the hotel, count every person including infants, and choose alternate times. Search the meal that matters most first. Save the confirmation with its payment, cancellation and modification terms; they are not identical for every restaurant.
If nothing is available, try a different day before choosing a less suitable time. A 9 p.m. dinner is not a useful substitute for a young child's lunch. Keep a normal meal in the itinerary and recheck cancellations without making the whole trip depend on an unconfirmed table.
Is character dining a good use of Dining Plan credits?
Disney lists Cinderella's Royal Table, Akershus lunch and dinner, and Story Book Dining at Artist Point as two table-service entitlements per person. Akershus breakfast is outside that lunch-and-dinner exception. Check participation for your plan and travel year in Disney's plan terms.
Divide the covered cash price by the credits used. A higher restaurant bill does not automatically mean better value if it consumes twice the entitlements. Our Dining Plan worksheet compares the full package with paying for the meals you actually want.
Questions parents ask
Do children under three need a reservation?
Include them in the party count. The menu's ages 3–9 price is not automatically their price: ask about sharing and separately ordered food before booking. An infant still needs space at the table.
Can we eat at a resort where we aren't staying?
You can reserve a resort restaurant without being a hotel guest. Allow for transportation and check access rules. A meal reservation is not permission to leave your car there for a full park day.
What if my child is frightened of the characters?
Tell the restaurant team, keep your child beside you, and let a wave be enough. Avoid turning the price of the meal into pressure for a hug or photograph. The toddler guide has a day plan with room to recover after an overstimulating morning.
