These are recommendations by use case, not rankings from stays or a claim that one hotel is best for every family. Disney's resort directory has the current room categories and notices.
Pop Century or Art of Animation?
Choose Pop Century when a standard room fits your party and you want to compare a value resort with Skyliner access. Choose an Art of Animation family suite when the separate sleeping arrangement solves a real problem, such as an early child's bedtime while adults remain awake.
Art of Animation also has standard Little Mermaid rooms. A price quoted for one of those is not the price or layout of a family suite. Open the specific room listing and count the beds and bathrooms you will actually use. Include every traveler and age when getting the quote.
Neither a Skyliner map nor a resort name tells you how long it takes to reach your room. Consider the walk to the station, a transfer and the journey after arriving at the park. Check Disney's Skyliner notices for your dates; weather or planned work can change the route.
When a Magic Kingdom hotel earns its price
The case is strongest when Magic Kingdom appears repeatedly in your schedule and you want room breaks. Compare the Contemporary's walking option with the transport available from the Polynesian and Grand Floridian. Evaluate the actual building and route, especially if you have a stroller or mobility device.
A family visiting all four parks once and spending evenings out has a different calculation. Don't pay a premium for Magic Kingdom convenience and then spend most of the trip elsewhere.
Ask about current construction before booking. Disney's 1900 Park Fare page currently notes Grand Floridian refurbishment work in selected areas through early 2027, including possible alternate paths. That doesn't mean the whole resort is closed; it does mean access deserves a specific check.
Room capacity is only the first question
A room can legally accommodate your party and still be a poor fit. Compare where the toddler sleeps, whether adults have a place to sit after bedtime, bathroom access and space for a folded stroller.
Some categories at Caribbean Beach and Port Orleans Riverside have an extra sleeping surface. Don't assume every room at either hotel has it, or that it will comfortably suit an adult. Get the exact category and description on the quote.
For two rooms, connecting-room requests and adjacent-room requests are different. Ask what is guaranteed before relying on either for childcare. A villa or suite with a confirmed layout may be the better choice for a multigenerational trip.
Compare a whole-stay price
Suppose one option costs $100 more per night for five nights. That is $500 before any tax difference. Write down what the extra $500 buys: a needed room layout, several easier nap returns, or a pool you plan to use. The numbers are illustrative, not hotel rates.
Include transport, parking where applicable and any off-site hotel fees. For an outside hotel, read the shuttle timetable and ask what happens when you want to return at noon. An attractive nightly price can become less attractive if every unscheduled journey needs a paid ride.

Family resort questions
Does a deluxe hotel have the fastest transport everywhere?
No. Convenience depends on the park and route. Animal Kingdom Lodge, for example, is not on the monorail. Use Disney's transportation guide for the hotels on your shortlist.
Should we change hotels halfway through?
Only if the second location or experience is worth packing, moving and waiting for a room. With young children, staying in one room can be more valuable than trying two resorts.
Should we book a character meal at our hotel?
It can simplify a morning, but choose the characters and time first. Compare the character meals, then mark the opening date with the dining calculator.
